How is it impacting people in the long term?

People who are victims of sexual harassment are afraid to say anything. This is because they are too afraid to speak up, they do not know what the consequences are, or they do not know if something is crossing the line between teasing and sexual harassment. Because of this, many cases go unreported every single year.

With so many people being impacted by sexual harassment each year, it is negatively affecting them. The Guardian discusses how “Sexual harassment is undermining, humiliating and can have a huge effect on mental health.” People who have been sexually harassed do not know how to deal with the long term effects. The Guardian also explains how “it can lead to a constant sense of being on alert, anticipating danger and feeling unsafe.” Victims become insecure, and this can even affect their careers.

Sexual Harassment often happens because of differences in power. Common incidents of sexual harassment happen in work environments, with supervisors, and employers. Other examples of sexual harassment include,  “Making offensive comments about someone’s sexual orientation or gender identity.” Although these are common examples that can happen anywhere, many people do not understand that they are considered sexual harassment.
